Creating Your First Project
Add your website to IndexMind, configure crawl settings, and prepare for your first AI visibility analysis.
A project in IndexMind represents a single website you want to analyze. Each project stores its own crawl history, probe results, AI reports, and recommendations. Creating one takes about 60 seconds.
How to create a project
Open the Projects page
Click Projects in the sidebar, then click the New Project button in the top-right corner.
Enter your website URL
Provide the root URL of the site you want to analyze (for example,
https://example.com). IndexMind will automatically detect your sitemap if one exists at the standard/sitemap.xmlpath.Name your project
Give the project a descriptive name. This appears in your dashboard, reports, and team notifications. You can rename it later from project settings.
Configure crawl scope (optional)
By default, IndexMind crawls all discoverable pages. You can limit the scope by specifying path patterns to include or exclude. For example, exclude
/blog/*to focus on product pages only.Save and launch
Click Create Project. You will land on the project dashboard, where you can immediately click Run Full Analysis to start your first scan.
Project settings
After creation, you can configure additional options from the project's Settings tab:
- Crawl depth. Control how many links deep the crawler follows from your root URL. The default is 3 levels.
- Page limit. Set a maximum number of pages to crawl per run. Free plans allow up to 50 pages. Starter allows 500. Pro allows 5,000.
- Crawl schedule. Pro plans can schedule recurring weekly or monthly analyses.
- Competitor tracking. Add competitor domains to compare your AI visibility against theirs.
For a detailed technical walkthrough of project configuration, including advanced crawl rules and sitemap overrides, see the Create Project documentation.
Project limits by plan
| Plan | Projects | Pages per crawl | Analyses per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | 1 | 50 | 1 |
| Starter | 5 | 500 | 10 |
| Pro | Unlimited | 5,000 | Unlimited |
What happens after you create a project
Your project dashboard shows an empty state until you run your first analysis. Click Run Full Analysis to kick off the three-stage pipeline: crawl, probe, and AI analysis. Results typically appear within 2 to 10 minutes.
Each completed analysis is stored in your scan history. You can compare runs side by side to track improvements over time.
