Understand how IndexMind works: concepts, configuration, and technical reference.

Core Concepts

Core concepts behind IndexMind: the AI Optimization Score, Four Pillars, crawls and probes, citations, sentiment, and competitor analysis explained.

IndexMind is a unified AI and search visibility platform. It combines AI Optimization (AIO), Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) into a single platform. IndexMind measures how your business appears in AI-generated answers from systems like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google Gemini — and cross-references that data with your organic search performance from Google Search Console.

When a potential customer asks an AI assistant "What's the best project management tool?" or "Which CRM should I use for a small business?", does the AI mention your brand? Does it recommend you? Does it describe you accurately? IndexMind answers these questions with data.

What You'll Learn

This section covers the foundational concepts that power the IndexMind platform.

How the scores fit together. Your dashboard shows an overall score built from three dimensions: your AI Optimization Score (40%), your AI Visibility Score (30%), and Sentiment (30%). Dimensions you have not measured yet, for example before you run AI probes, are left out of the average rather than counted as zero. The sections below explain each one.

AI Optimization Score

How well your site is built for AI discovery, scored from 0 to 100 across the Four Pillars. The AI Optimization Score is the largest single input to your overall score (40%).

The Four Pillars

IndexMind evaluates your AI readiness across four dimensions: Content Quality, Conversion Experience, Information Architecture, and Technical Health. Together, these pillars provide a complete picture of how AI systems perceive your site.

Crawls & Probes

The two data collection methods IndexMind uses to gather intelligence. Crawls scan your website for technical signals and content structure. Probes query live AI models with your target keywords to see if and how you appear in their responses.

Citations

Track how often AI systems cite, mention, or recommend your website when responding to relevant queries. Citations are the AI equivalent of backlinks. They signal authority and relevance to AI models.

Sentiment Analysis

Understand the tone and framing AI systems use when they talk about your brand. Sentiment analysis classifies AI responses as positive, negative, or neutral and helps you identify perception gaps you can address.

Competitor Analysis

Compare your AI visibility head-to-head against competitors. See who AI systems recommend more often, identify narrative gaps, and get specific action items to close competitive gaps.

Beyond AI: Search Intelligence

IndexMind goes further than AI visibility by integrating with Google Search Console to provide Search Intelligence — a cross-analysis layer that combines organic search data with AI probe results. This lets you find content gaps between what Google ranks and what AI cites, track search performance trends, monitor URL health, and receive alerts when metrics change. The result is a complete picture of your visibility across both AI and traditional search.

Each of these concepts builds on the others. Your AI Optimization Score reflects the health of your Four Pillars, your AI Visibility Score reflects how often AI models cite you, and Sentiment reflects how they characterize you. Those three dimensions combine, weighted 40/30/30, into your overall score. All of them are measured through Crawls and Probes and surface in your Citations, Sentiment, Competitor Analysis, and Search Intelligence views, giving you a complete picture of your visibility across AI and search and a clear path to improving it.
