Alerts

Configure threshold-based alerts for position drops, CTR anomalies, and impression changes.

IndexMind's alert system monitors your search performance data after every GSC sync and notifies you when metrics cross configurable thresholds. Instead of manually checking for ranking drops or traffic anomalies, you get notified the moment something needs attention.

Alert Types

IndexMind monitors three categories of search performance changes.

Position Drops

Triggers when a query's average position drops by more than your configured threshold between the last 7 days and the prior 7 days.

  • Default threshold: 5 positions
  • Minimum impressions: 100 (low-impression queries are filtered out to reduce noise)
  • Severity: Warning for drops over the threshold, Critical for drops over double the threshold (e.g., >10 positions)

Position drops on high-impression queries are the most important alerts. A top-10 query dropping below page 1 typically means a significant traffic loss.

CTR Anomalies

Triggers when a query's click-through rate changes by more than your configured percentage between periods.

  • Default threshold: 30% change
  • Minimum impressions: 500
  • Severity: Warning

CTR drops often indicate changes in SERP features (a new featured snippet pushing your result down), competitors improving their titles and descriptions, or your own metadata being overwritten by Google.

Impression Drops

Triggers when a query's week-over-week impressions drop by more than your configured percentage.

  • Default threshold: 50% drop
  • Severity: Warning for drops over threshold, Critical for drops over 75%

Sudden impression drops on high-volume queries may indicate indexing issues, algorithm updates, or seasonal changes. Cross-reference with URL Health to rule out technical causes.

Viewing Alerts

Alerts appear in the notification bell in the header. The bell shows a red badge with the unread count. Click it to open a dropdown with your recent alerts.

Each alert shows:

  • Severity icon — Red triangle for critical, amber triangle for warning
  • Title — A human-readable summary of what happened
  • Description — Details including affected queries, metrics, and suggested actions
  • Timestamp — When the alert was generated

You can dismiss individual alerts or mark all as read from the dropdown.

Configuring Thresholds

Alert thresholds are configurable per project in Settings > GSC > Alert Settings.

SettingDefaultDescription
Position Drop Threshold5 positionsMinimum position change to trigger an alert
Position Drop Min Impressions100Only alert for queries above this impression count
CTR Anomaly Percent30%Minimum CTR change percentage to trigger
CTR Anomaly Min Impressions500Only alert for queries above this impression count
Impression Drop Percent50%Minimum week-over-week impression drop to trigger
Email on CriticalEnabledSend email for critical-severity alerts
Master ToggleEnabledEnable or disable all alerts for this project

Use the Reset to Defaults button to restore the default thresholds.

Start with the default thresholds and adjust after a week of data. If you receive too many alerts, raise the impression minimums. If you miss important changes, lower the position drop threshold.

Email Notifications

When "Email on Critical" is enabled, critical-severity alerts are delivered via email to all team members who have opted in to alert notifications. Email delivery happens immediately after alert generation during the GSC sync.

Deduplication

IndexMind prevents alert fatigue by deduplicating alerts. If an identical alert (same type, same affected query or URL) was already created within the last 24 hours, a new alert is not generated. This means you will not receive the same alert repeatedly across multiple syncs within the same day.

Dismissed alerts older than 30 days are automatically cleaned up.
