Opportunities

A prioritized list of what to fix next, combining organic search gaps with AI visibility data.

The Opportunities Engine is the "what should I do next?" answer. It ranks optimization opportunities by combining organic search data from Google Search Console with AI visibility data from probes, then surfaces the highest-impact items on your Overview dashboard.

How Opportunities Are Scored

Each opportunity receives a score based on three weighted factors:

  1. Impressions — Queries and pages with more impressions have more potential traffic impact
  2. Position proximity — Pages closer to the top of search results benefit more from small improvements
  3. AI visibility gap — Pages that are invisible to AI systems get an additional priority boost because closing the cross-channel gap compounds value

The formula ensures that high-impression, near-top-ranking, AI-invisible pages surface as the highest priority opportunities — these are the items where a single fix can improve visibility in both organic search and AI answers.

Opportunity Types

IndexMind generates six types of opportunities, ranked by default priority.

Invisible Pages (URGENT)

Pages that rank in Google's top 10 with significant impressions but are not cited by any AI system. These are your most important cross-channel gaps.

Data source: OrganicAiGap analysis — pages where aiInvisible = true

What to do: Run an AI probe for the page's top queries. Then optimize the page for AI discoverability: add structured data, improve answer-readiness, and strengthen authority signals.

CTR Gaps (HIGH)

Queries with over 500 impressions but less than 2% CTR. These pages appear in search results frequently but users are not clicking.

Data source: GSC query data

What to do: Rewrite title tags and meta descriptions to be more compelling. Check if SERP features (featured snippets, knowledge panels) are pushing your result down.

Position Drops (URGENT)

Queries that dropped more than 3 positions in the last 7 days compared to the prior 7 days, especially those that fell from page 1 to page 2+.

Data source: GSC daily query data, period-over-period comparison

What to do: Investigate the cause — check URL Health for indexing issues, review content freshness, and check if competitors have published new content.

Google-Only Keyword Gaps (HIGH)

Keywords where Google shows strong organic demand (high impressions) but AI probes found no citation for your site.

Data source: OrganicAiKeywordGaps — googleOnly category

What to do: These keywords represent AI blind spots. Optimize the associated pages for AI discoverability and consider running targeted AI probes to establish your presence.

Missing Schema (MEDIUM)

Pages ranking in Google's top 20 that have missing or broken structured data (schema markup).

Data source: OrganicAiGap analysis — pages where schemaStatus != OK

What to do: Add appropriate schema.org markup (Product, FAQ, HowTo, Organization) to the affected pages. Valid structured data improves both traditional search features and AI comprehension.

AI-Only Keyword Gaps (MEDIUM)

Keywords where AI systems cite your site but Google does not rank you. AI found you, but traditional search has not caught up.

Data source: OrganicAiKeywordGaps — aiOnly category

What to do: Create or optimize dedicated pages for these keywords. You already have AI authority — adding organic visibility compounds the value.

Viewing Opportunities

Opportunities appear in two places:

Overview Dashboard

The Top Opportunities card on the Overview tab shows your top 3–5 highest-priority items. Each item includes:

  • Title — What the opportunity is
  • Priority badge — URGENT, HIGH, or MEDIUM
  • Impact estimate — Estimated impressions at stake
  • Affected count — Number of pages or queries affected
  • Top queries/pages — A preview of the most important affected items

Click any opportunity to navigate directly to the relevant detail view (Content Gaps, Search Performance, etc.).

AI Visibility Tab

The full opportunities list is accessible from the AI Visibility tab, where you can see all opportunities sorted by score.

Keeping Opportunities Fresh

Opportunities are recalculated after every GSC sync. As you make improvements and new data flows in, completed opportunities disappear and new ones may surface. This creates a continuous improvement loop:

  1. Check your top opportunities
  2. Fix the highest-priority item
  3. Wait for the next sync
  4. See the opportunity resolved and the next one surface

Focus on URGENT opportunities first — they represent the highest-impact cross-channel gaps. A single URGENT fix often has more impact than addressing several MEDIUM items.
